Thank you to our sponsor Brown Advisory

Join us for a cocktail reception and talk by “Antiques Roadshow” veterans Michael Grogan and his daughter, Lucy Grogan, offering their perspective on the art of collecting and a hands-on presentation of how to evaluate artwork. Hear their take on:

  • current trends in art & antiques collecting
  • how to think about building a collection
  • establishing value- the thought process of evaluating a work of art
  • the real chances of finding an undiscovered Picasso or Sargent lurking in the attic

Michael B. Grogan is president of Grogan & Company, the international auction house featuring fine art, jewelry, silver, decorative arts, and Oriental rugs. He established the Beacon Hill-based, family-run business back in 1987. It currently holds four major auctions annually, attracting buyers from around the world. Prior to founding the company, Michael spent ten years working at Sotheby's, as Head of Oriental Carpets, Director of Sotheby's Arcade Auctions, and President of Sotheby's Appraisal Company.

Lucy P. Grogan is Vice President of Grogan & Company and director of their Jewelry Department. Prior to joint Grogan & Company, Lucy was director of auction operations for The Jackson Hole Art Auction.

Michael and Lucy can often be seen on the hit television program "The Antiques Roadshow" appraising unique discoveries of Jewelry, Silver and Fine Art.

Attendees are welcome to bring jewelry, silver and paintings for evaluation. Michael and his daughter, Lucy, will choose the most conversational pieces to present, and then will evaluate the other items individually with the owners.

The reception will be hosted at Grogan & Co.'s auction gallery, offering a preview of fine art, jewelry, and decorative art to be sold at the firm’s 30th anniversary auction in November.
